Finola McCarthy

Partner at RDJ, Finola McCarthy heads the firm’s Procurement and Construction teams, advising public and private sector clients on complex construction, infrastructure and engineering projects across Ireland. She supports projects from early‑stage procurement and contract strategy through delivery, dispute avoidance and resolution. Finola has particular expertise in advising on major capital works, design‑and‑build projects, EPC and infrastructure schemes, including energy and utilities projects. She regularly advises on and negotiates all principal construction contract forms, with a strong focus on risk allocation, programme certainty and claims management.
A significant part of Finola’s practice involves advising contracting authorities and state bodies on construction procurement under Irish and EU public procurement law, including tender strategy, evaluation processes, standstill challenges and contract administration. She also advises employers, developers and funders on construction‑related planning, environmental compliance and health and safety issues affecting project delivery.
Finola lectures on the Law Society’s Diploma in Construction Law and is consistently ranked by Chambers Europe and The Legal 500 for her work in construction, planning and environmental law. Finola has also been recognised in the Business Post Legal 100 2025 for excellence in Construction and Energy law, reflecting her leadership and expertise in the sector.
